VESALAN PERUSKOULU, FINLAND
8TH – 21ST OF MAY
In May 2025 the research group transitory writing in no one’s land gave a workshop about collective writing with students from the Vesala comprehensive school in a preparatory education class 3-6 for studying Finnish. We met in class to test different materials for writing and then continued to write twice in Itäkeskus by the STOA cultural centre. The workshop was about writing together, reflecting and exploring how language moves between us. We wrote according to prompts such as; Notate an action that you see perceive – a dog barking, somebody eating or walking; What colours can you see? and What can you hear? What or who is making that sound?
Through collective recording during the two concluding meetings, we explored how writing can extend into voice, echo, and resonance. It was a pleasure to record in the sound studio at the Kipinä Youth Centre and a joy to receive a collective sound work that was presented at the school’s Kevätjuhla or Spring festivity.
Thank you Eevi Savolainen and Cristal Flores.
